Pineapple Smoothie

I got a small surprise from my Appa last time when we went to India. He gave me a small present, two cookery books. It was a very pleasant surprise, especially since it was from my Appa. Appa is a kind of person who doesn’t believe in giving as well as receiving any gifts. Though its a small present, I treasure it very much, since things like this happen only once in a bluemoon :). Ok, now coming to the two books, one is a kutti book which has only soft drink recipes. Those are very simple recipes, which can be made easily with standard ingredients which can be found in any kitchen. Other book has a variety of Kerala recipes.

Today I tried one of the soft drink recipes in the kutti book, Pineapple Smoothie and here is the recipe.

  1. Fresh or tinned pineapple with its juice – 570 gm
  2. Fresh nutmeg/cinnamon gratings – 1/2 teaspoon
  3. Honey – 2 tbsp
  4. Chilled milk – 1/2 cup
    Chilled yogurt – 1 cup
  5. Extra honey & nutmeg/cinnamon – to drizzle

Chop the pineapple into small pieces. Process pineapple with its juice, cinnamon, honey an milk in a blender until the mixture becomes smooth.Add yogurt and process for 5-10 seconds. Pour into serving glasses. Drizzle honey and sprinkle cinnamon over the smoothie. Serve immediately.

Note: Though the original recipe calls for 2 tbsp of honey, you can reduce it to 1 or even 1/2 tbsp. I used Al Marai yogurt.

    Hi Mariachi…this recipe sounds yummy…..

Please confirm…’chilled yogurt’…is this natural (plain) yogurt or flavoured (sweet) yogurt???

    • http://www.mariasmenu.com Maria

      Suzi dear

I used plain natural yogurt, I think its ok to use flavored yogurt also if it compliments the pineapple flavor.

      Hope you’ll like it :)

      Take care dear…

    Dear Maria

I want to clear one doubt that once i made fruit salad, i put fruits(Apple, grape, banana and pineapple) condensed milk, milk and ice cream. But the taste was bitter. why it is like that ? somebody told me it is because the pineapple and the milk it will not add together, is it right?

    Waiting your reply,

    salam

    • http://www.mariasmenu.com Maria

      Hi Salam,

I havent tried fruit salad yet, so I’m not sure about the process. However I’ve come across some fruit salad recipes and in that they usually put the fruits in sugar syrup and the custard is usually poured on top of that. May be you can try soaking the fruits in sugar syrup next time.

For this smoothie recipe, I didnt have any bitter taste, though I’ve used pineapple & milk.

      Hope this helps….

      Cheers
      Maria

    • Julie

       dear salam,
yep u r right.never put milk ‘n pineapple 2gether.similarly never add chopped oranges along with the other fruits.keep oranges /pineapple in the sugar syrup separately and add along with the rest of the ingredients while serving.there wont b any probs :)
