I am confused with the name of this dish. I got the recipe from Vanitha magazine. They have named it Greek fish. I never had Greek food, so don’t know if there is any similarity. Somehow I cant bring myself to call it “Greek fish fry”. When I gave it to my husband, he asked me whether its fish fingers, I said I was not sure. I’ve posted a recipe for fish fingers before and its so different from this. Though there was a confusion with regards to the name, there wasn’t any confusion about its taste. It has a unique taste, whether its Greek or Latin.
After all what’s in a name :)Â I thought I would just call it fish fry, after all its fish & its fried too ;)
Please find the recipe here:
- Fish pieces – 1/2 kg ( I cut in finger shapes)
- Ginger – 1/2 – 1 tbsp
Green chili – 2
Pepper – 1/2 – 1 tsp
Garlic – 1/2 – 1 tbsp - Lemon juice – juice of a half lemon
- Plain flour – 2 tbsp
Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt - Egg – 1
Bread crumbs – as required (around 3/4 – 1 cup)
Clean the fish and drain the water. Grind together number 2 ingredients along with lemon juice & salt. Marinate the cleaned fish peices with the ground paste and keep it for 1 hour. Strain together plain flour, salt & pepper powder. Sprinkle the flour mixture over the fish pieces. Dip the fish pieces coated with flour in egg and roll it in bread crumbs. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the fish pieces till it becomes golden brown or till the fish is cooked. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce.
