Cocktail Chicken Crunchies

Do you want to be part of a naming ceremony? Come on, jump in! This recipe is very similar to the easy chicken fry recipe, I’ve posted sometime back. Then why am I posting it? Well…there is no frying involved in this and this one is dressed up in a tangy flavor too, which btw, is one of my most fav flavors :)

I got this recipe from “Vanitha Pachakam” Magazine and its named as Pasted Chicken. Somehow I didn’t like that name very much and my chicken didn’t come out as pasty. Since this dish is something that you can munch while having a drink or watching TV, or while gossiping with friends, I wanted it to sound very hep & happening ;).

Since I myself is not much of a hep & happening person, I couldn’t think of any such names. So if you can find a suitable name for this “nameless chick”, please do drop in a comment. We will select from that. Come on… get thinking, dust your creativity. I’m waiting…

Meanwhile you can make it and see, so you can get more clarity about the naming process, what say ;)?

Update on 20/03/2010: I guess its time for the “nameless chick” to be named. Thank you so much for participating in this. I very much enjoyed going through suggestions sent by you. Ok…now the name, we liked all the names, but we are slightly leaning more towards the “Cocktail Crunchies” suggested by Nisha. I modified it a bit to “Cocktail Chicken Crunchies”. Nisha, hope you dont mind it. Once again, thank you :)

Here is the recipe:

  1. Chicken – 1/2 kg, cut into small strips/pieces
    Kashmiri Chilly powder – 1 – 1 1/2 tbsp
    Oil – 1/4 – 1/2 cup
    Salt
  2. Curry leaves – 1/2 cup
Green chilly – 4-6, slit lengthwise (adjust as per your spice tolerance)
  3. Tomato sauce/ketchup – 1/4 cup

Combine together number 1 ingredients in a non stick pan. Cover & cook till the chicken is almost done & the water is dried (refer notes).  Add curry leaves & green chilly at this time. When the chicken is roasted well, add the tomato sauce and mix well. Cook for a few more minutes and remove from fire. Serve hot.

Notes: I used boneless chicken pieces. Though the recipe asks not to add water while cooking, you can add 1/8 cup of water, so as to avoid any burning of chicken pieces.

That looks amazing Maria :) My husband is the only one in the household who’s into spicy food, I’ll try making that for him and let you know how it goes ;)

Just looking at it I felt like it was something very ‘summery’! So, I’d probably go with Blazing Chicken Bites, especially with the curry and chilli involved ;)

I also had a question, I like really really really mild curry, any thoughts on simple dishes with a touch of curry suitable for a pregnant lady? :D

    • http://www.mariasmenu.com Maria

      Hi Heba,

Thank you dear for your suggestions. Did you try out the recipe?

btw, I assume you are the “pregnant lady”, if so congrats dear :)

Regarding the curry, I have a chicken stew recipe. It’s a very mild curry and goes well with bread. Please have a look at it.

I just stumbled across this blog, and I LOVE IT!
You’ve done a great job of including variety in your dishes, as well blending cultures. I read a few of the descriptions and the recipes sound like things i already do (nothing too extreme/crazy) and the blog has me alternating between nodding my head in agreement and laughing!
This’ll definitely be a site I add to my ‘Favorites” !

    • http://www.mariasmenu.com Maria

Yeah, I usually go for simple recipes, just everyday stuff. Unless I’m in a mood to be crazy ;)

Please try out the recipes when you have time. Hope to see you here again :)

      Cheers

cocktail chic o’crunchies will also be nice but ur names good.Must try it with COCKTAILS.Ever wonder why the name cocktails? Cheers

  • shibu

    FYI Maria

The earliest known printed use of the word cocktail was in The Farmer’s Cabinet on April 28, 1803:[4]

Drank a glass of cocktail—excellent for the head…Call’d at the Doct’s. found Burnham—he looked very wise—drank another glass of cocktail.
The earliest definition of cocktail was in the May 13, 1806, edition of the Balance and Columbian Repository, a publication in Hudson, New York, in which an answer was provided to the question, “What is a cocktail?”. It replied:

Cocktail is a stimulating liquor composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters—it is vulgarly called a bittered sling and is supposed to be an excellent electioneering potion, inasmuch as it renders the heart stout and bold, at the same time that it fuddles the head. It is said, also to be of great use to a Democratic candidate: because a person, having swallowed a glass of it, is ready to swallow anything else.

      Hey Shibu,

Thanks for the detailed info :) It’s good to know…

Please try it sometime…hope you’ll like it.

    hey!!!

am gonna try dis one today, got some chicken breast pieces right here in my fridge, wanted to try something really really new with those.so as usual “mariaaaaa mariaaaaaa”(to quote my hubby)and found dis one!!!!!

i hav tried many of ur recipes but rarely get time to comment, bcoz my 1 1/2 year old boy doesnt like d idea of sharing “HIS” computer wid his mom!!!especially the keyboard!!so it’s by palying hide n seek tht i get access to this ‘precious thing!!’.wud manage to get the recipe on the monitor n thn through many tricky movements(some jumps here n some jumps there n some near to the pc ….)somehow wil scroll down n read d full recipe(lool!!! does it seems a bit exaggerated?but not!!!)so most of the time i am not able to stick to the exact measurements, but still dey all tastes amazing!!!

but i hav got one very big complaint abt u!!!!you are the one making me fat!:( how on earth cud i stick to a slimming diet if u go on posting such yummy recipes?!!juz kidding dear!!i always search for excuses to skip my diet, cant help:( you know wat my hubby says..”look at them (you n jose)she makes all these things but both of them r slim and you(myself)are geting fat on her name” :) actually how is it posible???

sory, sory for such a looooong comment!!keep posting ur wonderful recipes, love dem!!

    • http://www.mariasmenu.com Maria

      Hi Shemi,

First of all thank you for such a long comment, I love reading them. Presently I’m in Kerala, and I dont spend much time on the comp, hence the delayed rep. Sorry about it :(

I very well understand your difficulty for getting the comp, I’ve seen many of my friends doing the same thing :) Anyways thank you so much for selecting the recipes from here with such effort and also for posting comments, appreciate it very much.

Btw, I’m not that slim but Jose is. He claims that he has a very high metabolism like super models ;) Anyways I always keep a weight limit n if I cross it, I will bring it down somehow :) I’m sure with the little one around you dont need any other exercise.

Thanks for the invite to Singapore. It’s a beautiful place right? we visited Singapore 3 or 4 years ago & loved it very much. We’d like to visit again & will let you know if we plan a trip. Hope to meet you then :)

Please do keep trying the recipes and also share your feedback.

      Cheers
      Maria

          Hi

I live in Juffair. There is a Megamart & Al jazira, next to my place, so I do most of my shopping from there. I think I’ve been to Riffa Lulu just once, last year sometime.

I guess at the new lulu in Ramli mall, they have coffee shops n all, so may be you can try that place ;)

Thanks for the compliments dear :) I’m no way a professional photographer. I started clicking pics only after I started blogging :)
